USCW to conduct inspection of Madarsas

The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) intends to conduct random inspections of Madarsas located across the State. The chairperson of the USCW Kusum Kandwal stated this following a reported incident wherein a female employee of a Madarsa accused a teacher and manager of raping her while she was unconscious.

Informing about this, Kandwal said that she became aware of this incident involving a woman working at a Madarsa in Vikasnagar. In an effort to gather more details in the matter, she talked to the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh over the phone. She said that he informed that an incident was reported at the Sahaspur police station involving the registration of a case against two teachers and the manager of the Madarsa. According to the complaint, a woman who used to work as a cook in the Madarsa alleged that in January, the two teachers and the manager mixed substances in her tea which made her unconscious, and then all three allegedly raped her. Additionally, she claimed that she was threatened with death if she disclosed the truth to anyone, she added.

Kandwal further informed that Singh also added that the woman eventually experienced stomach pain and upon medical examination, it was discovered that she was pregnant. She suffered a miscarriage.

Kandwal said that in the light of this incident, the commission is planning to conduct random inspections in Madarsas situated across the State.
