The Food and Civil Supplies department minister Rekha Arya has issued orders to all District Supply Officers (DSOs) to ensure each eligible beneficiary gets new ration card by the end of this year to ensure that no family has to face difficulties in getting their monthly ration in time.

She also directed the officials to ensure that Antyodaya cardholders get annual benefit of getting three cooking gas cylinders as per the government’s order, especially in rural areas of the State. She stated this in the review meeting of the department on Tuesday. She directed the officials concerned to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries including those who have surrendered their old ration cards to their respective district supply offices must get new ration cards by December 31. She also directed the DSOs to ensure ration distribution in shops of the public distribution system (PDS) to the beneficiaries is being done through biometrics as per the rule.

Though some difficulties were observed in using machines of the biometric system for ration distribution in some mountainous areas due to network issues, its usage in urban areas must be 100 per cent for ration distribution, said Arya. She also directed the officials concerned to give a detailed report to the department citing the reasons why Antyodaya ration card holders are not refilling their cooking gas cylinders as beneficiaries.
