U’khand doubles grant for limb implants of specially abled

The Uttarakhand government has approved  a 100 per cent increase in the grant given to the specially abled for artificial limb implant. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this and other announcements on the occasion of international day for the persons with disabilities on Saturday. Addressing a programme organised by the social welfare department the CM said that the State government would now give a grant of Rs 7,000 for artificial limb implant to specially abled. At present this grant is Rs 3,500. He also declared that the reward money for the State level efficiency award would be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.

In the programme the CM felicitated the winners of this award. He handed over citation, medals and cheques of the award to 32 specially abled persons on the occasion. The awardees include eleven sportsmen, ten employees, ten self employed and one officer.

Speaking on the occasion Dhami said that the process of providing disability pension would be simplified on the lines of old age pension. He said that the beneficiaries of the pension would now include all those whose sons and grandsons are more than 20 year old. The CM said that the persons with disabilities would be given a relaxation of five per cent in the minimum passing marks in the examinations. He said that the union and the State governments are committed for the welfare of the persons with disabilities. He said that efforts are being made to provide the right of equality to such persons both in economic and social fields under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that every possible effort is being made to bring the specially abled in the national mainstream. Dhami said that such persons are providing appreciable services in every field on the basis of their will power and commitment. He said that a sum of Rs 155 crore has been earmarked for the welfare of persons with disabilities in the budget of the year 2022-23. He said that a monthly pension of Rs 1,500 is being given to specially abled who are poor and the parents of such children are being given a grant of Rs 700 for their sustenance. A sum of Rs 25,000 is also being provided as an incentive to those marrying such persons. MLA Khajan Das, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, principal secretary N Fenai, director of social welfare BL Firmal and others were present on the occasion.
