Tourists make most of Sunday sans rain in Nainital

After a rainy Saturday, tourists and locals in Nainital enjoyed some respite from the rain on Sunday. A large number of tourists visited the various tourist attractions in and around the city making the most of the weather. The lake city was overcast with clouds for most of the day and there was a brief spell of drizzling in the afternoon but the rainfall as experienced in the recent past was not witnessed on Sunday. According to the government inter college meteorological centre in-charge Sanjay Panwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 11.5 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius respectively at 8:30 AM and 13.5 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius respectively at 5:30 PM.

The Naini lake control room in-charge Ramesh Singh Gaida informed that the rainfall witnessed in the recent past has resulted in an increase in the water level of the Naini lake. He said that the level of water in the lake was 5 feet six inches on Saturday which rose by one inch on Sunday. Meanwhile, a considerable number of tourists visited various locations in the city on Sunday. According to official sources, 945 tourists visited the zoo and 1,235 visited the cave garden. In addition to this, 760 persons visited the woodland waterfall on the Nainital-Kaladhungi motor road, 317 visited the Himalayan botanical garden and 624 used the cable car. Apart from the locations in the city, nearby destinations like Kainchi Dham were also visited by a number of tourists.
