Thunderstorms with lightning & hail likely in parts of State today

Dehradun and other parts of the State experienced a mostly dry and partly cloudy day on Sunday. However, rain and snowfall are likely to continue in some parts of the State on Monday. The State meteorological centre has also issued a warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail likely to occur at isolated places in the districts today. The meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorm/snowfall are likely to occur at a few places in the districts of the State on Monday. Further, snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness mainly clear to partly cloudy skies with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius respectively on Monday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the rainy spell in the past week has brought down the average temperatures in Dehradun and other parts of the State. The maximum temperature in Dehradun has mostly remained below 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature has remained below 20 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 25.9 degrees Celsius and 12.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27.8 degrees Celsius and 12.6 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 15.3 degrees Celsius and 3.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15.6 degrees Celsius and 5.2 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
