The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the central agencies such as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) that take prompt action in the cases involving opposition leaders become sluggish in other cases of corruption. Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of Uttarakhand Congress here on Thursday, the PCC president said that in last one year the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) has ordered CBI probe in the illegal felling of trees scam in Corbett National Park, Parking scam in Haridwar and the Horticulture scam and it will be seen how promptly the agency takes up these cases. He said that the central agencies show extraordinary haste in slapping cases on leaders of Congress party and other opposition leaders become very sluggish in other cases of corruption. Mahara said that the CBI is investigating the case of irregularities in purchase of equipment and appointments in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh from the last three years but it has remained very sluggish and the culprits are still at large in these cases. Mahara said that in the year 2019, the then president of employee union of AIIMS Rishikesh had written a letter in which he had mentioned the names of some candidates which he said would be selected by the authorities in various posts in AIIMS. His prophecy proved correct when 95 per cent of the names he mentioned in his letter were selected. Mahara claimed that many of the candidates who got selected using unfair means have been promoted by the authorities. In one case, a doctor was appointed to the post in the hospital administration department of the institute at the age of 54 years which is against the norms. Similarly one candidate got exactly similar marks in two different examinations conducted by the institute on July 27 and 30 this year, he said. The PCC president said that the AIIMS Rishikesh has hired NSEIT Company for conducting recruitment on its various posts though this agency was involved in forest guard examination and is blacklisted in many states.
