Super-speciality & burn units of Sushila Tiwari Hospital functioning sans a single nursing staff

Haldwani-based Sushila Tiwari Government Medical College and Hospital, the premier government-run health facility in Kumaon region, is in dire straits as its burn unit and super-speciality unit have been functioning sans the service of nursing staffs. As per information received, the number of sanctioned posts of the nurses in the hospital is 310, but 74 posts have been lying vacant. As far as the super-speciality division of the hospital is concerned, there are ten sanctioned posts for nurses and all have been lying vacant. The same is the plight of the burn unit. Out of 12 sanctioned nurses’ posts, all have lying vacant.
When asked about the matter, a senior functionary in the medical college said that the vacant posts are being filled through outsourcing. But when the question as to what is happening to the patients being admitted at these units, he evaded direct answer, saying that he had taken serious note of the matter and the problem would be resolved soon.
