The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed officials to undertake a campaign against the use of single-use plastic on a war footing along with a public awareness campaign. She issued this direction while chairing a meeting of officials of linear departments and the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL) to review the implementation of the Uttarakhand High Court orders regarding the plastic ban in the State.

The DM directed officials to ensure the implementation of the ban on the use, storage and transport of single-use plastic and to take action as per the provisions in the rules.

She said that meetings should be held on usage of plastic in industrial estates along with registration, identification and other tasks. The officials concerned have been directed to submit the report of such activities to the nodal officer/additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) within four days. The officials were also told to direct the producers, exporters and companies in the district to collect and take back the plastic being brought with their products. Strict action will be taken as per the court orders in case this is not done. The ADM (Finance and Revenue) KK Mishra said that all officials will have to mentally prepare themselves, undertake public awareness activities and raids to ensure implementation of the court orders.
