Stop spreading confusion on UCC: Bhatt to Congress

Expressing surprise at the objections raised by the Congress party on Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the Uttarakhand BJP has said that it should refrain from spreading confusion in the public on the issue. The president of the State BJP, Mahendra Bhatt said that the Congress leaders should make their position clear on UCC. He said that the Congress party would get a chance to express their views on the UCC during the assembly session.  “It is generally seen that the Congress either remains in a state of confusion on the key issues or it tries to create confusion in the public. Its reaction on the UCC and the sting CD case are examples of this confusion,’’ he said.

Bhatt said that former Chief Minister Harish Rawat is talking about neglect of the SC, ST and different social groups on the issue but he is not aware that the expert committee has taken suggestions from all these sections in the last one year. He said that the Congress leaders would get ample opportunity to put forward their ideas on the UCC during discussions on its draft in the State assembly. Bhatt said that as far as BJP is concerned, the UCC has always been part of its core agenda and the party had made a promise to the people of the State in the elections that it would implement UCC in the State. BJP is committed to fulfil the promise it had made to the people of the State.
