Ram Jhula closed due to soil erosion near its base

Thursday, 17 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | RISHIKESH

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the iconic Ram Jhula bridge in the Munikireti area of Rishikesh has been closed for movement. This closure is being attributed to the soil erosion under the bridge near its base following heavy downpour. Besides, cracks have appeared on the bridge. The SDM issued this order, keeping in view the safety of the tourists and others. Police have already installed barricades to stop the people’s movement.  The Munikireti police station in-charge Ritesh Shah said that the public works department (PWD) has been asked to come and see the damage. The experts attribute this to the continuous soil erosion beneath the bridge. With the Ganga still in spate, the soil erosion spree is continuing unabated.  Notably, a large number of people, including tourists, use this bridge.
