U’khand Congress paid glowing tributes to the former Prime Minister on his 78th birth anniversary

The leaders and workers of the Congress party in Uttarakhand paid glowing tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 78th birth anniversary on Saturday.

 In Uttarakhand the Congress party organised seminars titled ‘Role of Rajiv Gandhi in the building the nation’ in all the district headquarters. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Karan Mahara and other senior leaders participated in the seminar held at the Rajiv Bhawan. Addressing the party workers, Mahara said that the late Rajiv Gandhi had a very influential personality and it was he who heralded the communication revolution in the country. He said that Gandhi made the Panchayati Raj bodies stronger by bringing in the constitution amendment act. Elaborating on the life and decisions of the late PM, Mahara said that he was a symbol of humility, friendship and progressiveness. The PCC president said that the arrival of Rajiv Gandhi in the political scenario was sudden but he carried the weight of the aspiration of the people of the country on his young shoulders as PM with courage, took bold decisions and soon earned the epithet of ‘Mr Clean’. Mahara said that Rajiv Gandhi became the role model for the youngsters with his works and decisions and was instrumental in reducing the voting age to 18 years. He brought in changes in the education system by implementing the new education policy and also took many decisions to empower the women in the country.

 Mahara exhorted the party workers to walk on the footprints of the Late PM .

 The leader of opposition (LoP), Yashpal Arya said that the late Rajiv Gandhi played an important role in strengthening the democratic system in the country. “He took initiative to end corruption and bring transparency in the government by bringing a bill like Lokpal in the parliament. Rajiv Gandhi was the father of the computer revolution in the country,’’ Arya said while paying homage to the late PM.

Mahara, Arya and other leaders also went to the Dispensary road in Dehradun where they garlanded the statue of the former PM.

 The vice president organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi, vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana, general secretary organisation Vijay Saraswat, Rajendra Shah, Garima Dasauni and others were present on the occasion.
