Monday, 07 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

A 20-year-old young woman died on Sunday while taking a selfie near the Sahastradhara river. The police have identified the victim as Swati Jain, a native of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh who was taking a selfie near the river in the morning when her feet slipped and she fell into the river, as per the officials. They said that since the water current was quite fast due to heavy rainfall in the region, her body was swept away. The Rajpur police along with the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) soon reached the site of the mishap after getting the information. The woman was rescued soon and sent to hospital for treatment but the doctors declared her brought dead. The senior Dehradun superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar has appealed to the public to avoid going near water bodies during monsoon as the water level can suddenly rise due to heavy rain that can lead to fatal accidents.

It is pertinent to mention here that taking selfies is proving to be fatal in some cases with incidents of people-especially youngsters dying while trying to take selfies coming to light in recent times. Last month,  two teenagers in the Laksar area of Haridwar district died after they climbed onto a railway bridge to take selfies and were run over by a train.
