The former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry headed by a sitting judge of the High Court (HC) to investigate all the recruitment examinations of the State which are under cloud. Interacting with the media persons at Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday, Singh said that the image of the State has received a major dent to a series of scams in the recruitment processes and the State government should address the issue very seriously. Reacting to the charge of the BJP that the Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment scam occurred during the period when Congress was in power in the State he said, “Yes Congress was in power then and I was the home minister. The government should come out of this my scam, your scam cover and order a CBI inquiry on all these scams. People believe that politicians are also involved in these scams. Our demand is that a fair inquiry should be held and it should reach to the politicians involved.’’

The senior leader of Congress party said that it is unfortunate that those who were entrusted with holding the examinations, were found to be involved in the scams.   He said that the BJP came to power by promising that it would provide jobs to the unemployed but instead of giving employment, the jobs are being sold in the State. Singh said that in the PCS examinations conducted by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC), more than 10,000 candidates were declared pass in the preliminary examination held for the 313 vacancies which is much higher than the guideline of 1:15 ratio. He said that this puts a question mark over the functioning of the UKPSC.

Singh said that the Congress party would hit the road if the State government fails to deliver justice to the unemployed by  bringing all the culprits involved in the recruitment scams to book. On the Joshimath disaster, Singh said that the Congress party demands that the compensation to the affected people should be given on the lines of a package offered to the families in Badrinath and Kedarnath.

The Pratapnagar MLA, Vikram Singh Negi said that the mafia is ruling the roost in Uttarakhand and it has no fear of the government. He said that the government is not serious about providing employment to the youth and the jobs are on sale in the State which is very unfortunate.
