PMHS ends agitation on CM’s assurance

The Provincial Medical Health Service (PMHS), the association of government doctors of the state has decided to withdraw its agitation after its leaders had a meeting with the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday. The PMHS Uttarakhand head Dr Naresh Singh Napalchyal, general secretaries Dr Manoj Verma and Dr NS Bisht discussed the various demands of the association with the chief minister. The chief minister assured the doctors that all of their demands will be considered seriously and that the government will treat the issues positively. Thanking the chief minister for this, the PMHS office bearers stated that they will immediately withdraw their agitation.

CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the doctors are doing commendable work during the Covid-19 pandemic. He commended the doctors for the dedication with which they were discharging their duties. Rawat said that the Covid patients and their family members had also appreciated the hard work being put in by the doctors and other health workers.

The PMHS head Dr Naresh Singh Napalchyal later informed that with the chief minister assuring positive cooperation, the association had decided to immediately withdraw its agitation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PMHS had been agitating in support of five demands with the doctors wearing black armbands from September 1 to 7. They were particularly dissatisfied at the state government’s decision to withdraw the one day salary of doctors for Covid-19 fund. The PMHS had stated that while many states are providing extra salary to the doctors, the state administration here was deducting one day’s salary which was causing resentment among the doctors.  The PMHS was demanding that the state government should stop deducting the salary of the doctors and instead provide encouragement allowance to them. The head of PMHS had expressed strong reservation on the misbehaviour allegedly done by the Jaspur MLA with the officiating CMO of Udham Singh Nagar.  The PMHS was demanding that the Chief Minister’s declaration of giving full salary to PG students should be fulfilled without any further delay.

The association was also angry over undue interference of administration in functioning of hospitals. In many cases, the association points out that Tehsildar and Patwari visit hospitals and give directions to doctors. This according to the PMHS was affecting the prestige of the doctors. The PMHS members had threatened to resign if their demands were not met. However, now the agitation has been withdrawn following the assurance given by the chief minister.
