Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the view of the citizens towards the nation’s border villages is changing. He stated this while replying to a letter written by the Jaspur Gram Pradhan Harish Rana regarding inclusion of Upla Taknaur area of Uttarkashi district in the Vibrant Village programme. The PM said that he was happy to see the changing perception of people towards border villages. He wrote in the letter, “This village which is very important from the strategic viewpoint and its residents are strong guardians of the nation. Consistent efforts are being made at various levels to enhance the real identity of border areas and facilitate elaborate development in such areas. The Vibrant Village programme has been started to improve connectivity in border areas, develop infrastructure, encourage tourism, mitigate migration and provide employment opportunities to the youths.” He further said that people will also get to learn about the lifestyle of the people in such villages, their food, handicrafts, folk arts and music through the programme.

The Jaspur Gram Pradhan had earlier written a letter to PM Modi thanking him on behalf of the villagers for inclusion of the Upla Taknaur area in the Vibrant Village programme. Rana had stated that the village which is near the border with China is very important from the strategic point of view. He had also sent jam and chutney prepared by the women of the village as gifts to the PM. It is pertinent to mention here that the Upla Taknaur area is also famous for cultivation of apples and Rajma (kidney beans). PM Modi stated that linking local produce to food processing, better packaging, storage, logistics and other aspects is gaining a new identity for such products across the nation and abroad. Products being made at home are an example of how India is becoming empowered and self-reliant at the ground level, he added. The PM expressed confidence that the Vibrant Village programme will gain considerable success with the cooperation of the local people.
