Doctors remove betel nut from woman’s lung

Conducting a successful surgery on a 53 -year-old woman Kyami Devi from Uttarkashi district the doctors of Himalayan Hospital in Dehradun removed a betel nut piece from her lung through bronchoscopy, thus giving her a new lease of life. As per the hospital, the patient was admitted in the department of respiratory medicine on March 18. She underwent regular investigations and subsequently CECT of thorax was performed on her which was followed by bronchoscopy. 

It revealed that a foreign body was found in her right bronchus intermedius which was causing complete obstruction of the right lower lobe of lung. The doctors decided to remove the foreign body. The foreign body was removed by doctors by flexible bronchoscopy and it was found to be a betel nut piece. After a check bronchoscopy, the right lower lobe was fully opened and made functional. Her general condition improved soon and she was discharged on improvement. 

The team involved in the complex surgery included Dr Rakhee Khanduri, Dr Rahul Gupta, Dr Sonu, Dr Amita Mason, Dr Sammi Pundir and Dr Lakshay Dhiman. 

The Chancellor of the Himalayan University, Vijay Dhasmana has congratulated the team of doctors on the successful surgery which saved the life of the patient.
