Drinking water projects: Minister Chufal pitches for one work execution agency

The minister for drinking water Bishan Singh Chufal has stressed on the need for coordination between agencies of the department and constitution of a work execution agency for the drinking water projects. The minister took a review meeting of the department in Vidhan Sabha auditorium on Wednesday. In the meeting he said that drinking water supplies in the state should be strengthened.

The minister suggested that a work executing agency should be set up in the department to prevent mudslinging among the agencies such as Jal Nigam, ADB and AMRUT Scheme for drinking water schemes. He said that implementation of projects is getting affected due to the presence of different agencies. Giving examples, the minister said that in the year 2008, Jindal company was entrusted with the task of Rs 3000 crore project of drinking water but the company completed only 33 per cent of work and left the project in the year 2017. A total of 31 cities were selected for the project but work in only five was completed. He said that the incomplete work would be done by the ADB.

The secretary Nitesh Jha, managing director Peyjal Nigam, Udai Raj and general manager SK Sharma were present on the occasion.
