The ongoing battle of allegations and counter allegations between the camps of cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat and former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal is continuing to escalate. On Thursday, the member of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Ashutosh Dimri served a legal notice to Godiyal in which he threatened to file a defamation case against him. Dimri is said to be close to Dhan Singh Rawat.

In the notice the counsel of Dimri said that Godiyal addressed a press conference on July 8 in which he leveled serious allegations on his client Dimri which has defamed his image. In the notice, the counsel of Dimri said that Godiyal levelled false and baseless allegations on Dimri getting advertisements worth Rs 25 lakh and regarding making Prasad (Laddoos).

In a message, Dimri said that Godiyal should seek a public apology from him for these baseless allegations failing which he would file a defamation case on him. He said that if the allegations of Godiyal are found true, he would retire from public life. He reiterated his demand for an inquiry on his allegations of gross irregularities that had occurred in BKTC when Godiyal was its chairman.

The war of words and scoring political points between Rawat and Godiyal started when the former directed the chief secretary to start an inquiry on the accusations of gross irregularities and corruption levelled by the member of BKTC Ashutosh Dimri on Godiyal.  Reacting sharply on these allegations Godiyal demanded that a committee headed by a retired judge of the High Court (HC) should investigate the charges levelled on him. He also demanded that the chief minister should also order a similar high level inquiry on the charges of corruption and irregularities on the minister Dhan Singh Rawat. Godiyal also leveled many charges on Dimri also following which the latter has threatened to file a defamation case.
