Close associates mourn demise of Sahara Group founder Subrata Roy

Subrata Roy, the iconic business tycoon and the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, died due to a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Mumbai and his last rites were performed in Lucknow. Close associates of Roy- fondly called Sahara Shri- said that he was instrumental in promoting Indian Startups, including the spiritual startup – My Tirth India-that is meant to promote the values and insights of the rich ‘Bhartiya’ culture, ethos and values. They averred that Roy had taken pains to develop My Tirth India into an important platform where all Indians across the world could fulfill their religious and spiritual needs, be it pilgrimage or any other service associated with Indian culture and spirituality. Those working with My Tirth India mourned his death, saying that his death was an irreplaceable loss to this movement with his being its inspirational leader and visionary.  

Mention worthy, Subrata Roy was named one of the tenth-most influential Indian businessmen in 2012 by India Today. Besides, the Sahara Group was termed by Time magazine as ‘the second largest employer in India after Indian Railways’ In 2004.  His group would operate over 5000 establishments across the country where about 1.2 million people were employed.
