Madhya Pradesh wins Tehri Water Sports Cup

The four-day Tehri Water Sports Cup organised on the Tehri dam reservoir concluded here on Sunday. Madhya Pradesh was adjudged the overall champion with 14 gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze medals. The army team stood second and the Odisha team stood third. Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj presented the trophies and medals to the winners on the occasion.

Officials informed that the players who won the gold medal in this competition have qualified for the National Games to be held in Goa this year for kayaking and canoeing events. The last day of the competition ended with the 200 metre event. Following Madhya Pradesh, the army team stood second with nine gold, four silver and the Odisha team stood third with four gold, four silver and seven bronze medals. Uttarakhand won one gold and three silver medals. In the men’s category of kayaking and canoeing competition, the army team topped with 67 points and Madhya Pradesh was the runner-up. In the women’s category, Madhya Pradesh was the winner with 98 points followed by Odisha with 62 points. Cabinet minister Maharaj and THDC India Limited executive director LP Joshi presented the trophies and medals to the winners.

Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association president Prashant Kushwaha, Uttarakhand Olympic Association general secretary DK Singh and THDC India Limited AGM AN Tripathi were also present on the occasion.
