Locals allowed to use their vacant plot as parking space without permission: DM

Locals in Dehradun can use their vacant plot as public parking space without seeking any permission from any authorities concerned. The land owner can even determine the rates they want to charge the drivers for parking of each vehicle.

The  district magistrate Sonika said on Tuesday that district administration along with traffic police has taken this initiative to resolve the traffic and parking issues in main areas of Dehradun. She said that many people tend to park their vehicles outside shops in marketplaces that tend to disrupt the traffic. Besides this, many do not park vehicles at distant parking spaces in various locations. To tackle such hindrances in busy areas, a person who has sufficient vacant land in the district can use it as public parking space without any requirement of getting approval from any official at any level, said the DM.

Since traffic increases on Sunday every week in marketplaces and several other areas, interested people can make their vacant land available for parking specifically for that day too, said Sonika. Besides this, school grounds, parking of wedding venues and similar properties can also be provided for parking on the weekend. She added that the district administration and the traffic police will even make sure that no encroachment occurs on such vacant lands after being used as parking spaces.
