The Dehradun superintendent of police (Traffic) Akshay Konde said that the police personnel standing on duty at the intersections of Dehradun city will also be allowed to impose penalties for traffic violations.

He also informed that the traffic police have also commenced a campaign against two-wheeler riders who carry more than one pillion rider on their vehicles. He said that Smart City control room in Dehradun is presently managing the process of imposing challan on traffic violators through cameras installed at intersections across the city due to which the number of physical challans has decreased considerably in the past few months. This has also led to the minimum presence of traffic police personnel at these intersections considering which, Konde said that the traffic police along with City Patrol Unit (CPU) have started campaigns at various intersections to penalise the riders rising with more than one pillion rider. He said that the teams on Sunday imposed penalties on 93 two-wheeler riders in just four hours.

He said that the main attraction of these proceedings was one of the traffic women personnel posted at Tehsil Chowk, Rachna who imposed a penalty on 11 vehicles for tripling in just 1 hour while carrying out the usual traffic duties. The local public and officials of the police have also praised Rachna for her work on Sunday, added Konde.

The SP, Traffic also stated that the traffic police will also continue its campaign of taking action against those who park vehicles in non-parking zones that lead to traffic issues across the city during busy hours.
