Anganwadi workers threaten to boycott assembly elections

Tuesday 12, 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Stating that the state government continues to be apathetic towards their demands despite several promises from government representatives, the Anganwadi workers have warned to boycott their work in Uttarakhand. On Monday, several Anganwadi workers from various blocks of Dehradun district gathered in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park and staged a protest against the state government. They marched towards the Collectorate and gave a memorandum directed to the chief minister. The protesting members of the association accused the government of deceiving them constantly with false assurances.

The president of the Anganwadi workers union Rekha Negi said that the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami had assured them last month that their demands would be presented in the cabinet meetings for discussion but he never did it. “The last two CMs also promised us to consider our demands but they never talked about it. The Anganwadi workers are underpaid and are still compelled to do work in various departments. Most of the women working in Anganwadi are abandoned, single mothers and divorced due to which we primarily want the government to raise our allowances besides paying the pending allowance,” stated Negi. She also informed that various Anganwadi unions have decided during a review meeting on Monday that they will boycott the work in all the districts and the upcoming state assembly elections if the government fails to raise their allowance this month. “Anganwadi workers have started boycotting work in Dehradun from September 28 due to the apathetic approach of the government. If this outlook continues towards our demands, we will boycott the work across the state besides boycotting the assembly elections 2021,” added Negi.
