The Disaster Management secretary SA Murugesan held a meeting with officials of the army, paramilitary and telecommunications department regarding preparations for the coming monsoon season. He said that during a disaster, the control room is like a war room so coordination should be established in advance. He said that at times when smaller disasters occur in the districts, an hour is like the golden hour so the procedure for seeking help should be made simpler to enable swifter response.
Officials of the state telecommunications department said that the common alert protocol facility is a successful method for disseminating emergency messages among the public. Officials of the army and paramilitary suggested that a mock exercise involving the jawans of the forces should be held at least once a year to prepare better for emergency situations. The officials said that they are ready to provide training to search and rescue volunteers.
