The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) to submit its reply in court within two days in a public interest litigation filed against the setting up of a sewage treatment plant on Dulhani river, a tributary of the Song river in Dehradun. The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Alok Kumar Verma also directed other respondents in the case to submit their replies before March 21.

Resident of Nakraunda in Dehradun, Devendra Prasad Ghildiyal had filed the PIL stating that the government was building a sewage treatment plant on the Dulhani river though this river merges with the Ganga river. The petitioner had stated that the Dulhani river always carries water and that the local residents have also been using it for drinking purposes. Ghildiyal stated that already the dirty water from Doon valley distillery is being drained into the Dulhani river and building the sewage treatment plant would increase the risk of diseases. He stated that the locals have made several submissions to the administration but these were not heard. Instead, the Peyjal Nigam drafted a report stating that the locals had consented to construction of the sewage treatment plant. The petitioner has sought shifting of the plant to another location.
