Joshi directs health inspector to look into garbage dumping outside bins

Taking cognisance of the issue of the dumping of garbage around the trash bins of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) by some sanitation workers in the Adhoiwala area where several ragpickers gather to pick up the sellable items regularly, the chief municipal health officer Dr Kailash Joshi instructed officials concerned to look into the matter.

For the last several months, many sanitation workers who collect garbage in the carts from nearby localities dump the garbage outside the bins when they seem full as informed by the locals. The situation got worse when some ragpickers started collecting sellable items like plastics or metal products with eight to 10 bags every day.

As per the locals, many also spread the garbage all over the ground that often spread a pungent odour in the area. When The Pioneer brought the matter to Dr Joshi’s notice, he directed a health inspector to examine the area and instructed him to take appropriate actions in the matter. It is pertinent to mention here that such cases are quite common in different localities of Dehradun where the trash lies outside the bins despite there being enough space inside them.

The ragpickers picking sellable items are also becoming a common sight in many areas including near Adhoiwala and Balbir Road that somehow spread more garbage in the area. Commenting on this, the MCD officials said that most of the garbage is thrown outside the bins by local residents therefore, the people of the city need to be more responsible too.
