STF nabs Ghodasan gang leader from Shirdi

Raju & six gang members were planning to steal from a showroom

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force arrested the leader of the Ghodasan/Chadar gang from Shirdi in Maharashtra. The STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal informed that the STF had been working to bust this gang for the past one month as many members of the Ghodasan gang had been wanted for quite some time. This gang had carried out thefts in various branded showroom of mobile phones and laptops in Uttarakhand and other States. Originating in East Champaran in Bihar, members of this gang generally live in hotels outside big cities and then mark big mobile phone or electronic gadgets showroom for theft. The members then drape themselves in blankets and stand outside the target showroom while one of their members breaks the shutter and enters the shop to steal the products before escaping. The stolen items are sold in Nepal due to which they are not tracked by electronic surveillance. Agrawal said that Raju Das alias Raju had been absconding after a theft in an Apple mobile phone showroom during 2018 in Jwalapur area of Haridwar. A bounty of Rs one lakh had been announced on his arrest. The police had been searching for him for the past four years without success. The STF activated informers in Ghodasan and learnt that Raju Das had gone with his gang to carry out a big theft in Maharashtra. The STF sent its team to Shirdi on December 21 where Raju Das was arrested after raids at various locations. Agrawal said that during questioning, Raju Das said that six other members of his gang were at different locations in Shirdi. They were searching for a big showroom to steal from. The STF shared the information with the Maharashtra police following which the Shirdi police station personnel succeeded in arresting six members of the gang. The STF will present Raju Das in the court in Haridwar.

A native of Ghodasan district in Bihar, Raju Das (38) is accused of thefts in various States. These cases which he informed the STF about during questioning are being ascertained.
