Four- lane highway: No elevated road from Bhaniwala trijunction to Jollygrant Chowk

Through the building of four- lane highway, drive from Dehradun to Rishikesh would be smoother and at the same time incidents of human-wild life conflict can be avoided in the forest areas in the stretch from Ranipokhri to Rishikesh. According to the NHAI officials, the land acquirement process for the project has started. However, some changes are being made in the plan of the four-lane highway from Bhaniwala to Rishikesh. Earlier, there was a plan to build 2.2 km long elevated road from Bhaniwala trijunction to Jollygrant Chowk. Now it has been abandoned. It has been decided that the road will be widened for a four-lane highway. The Centre has approved Rs 1036.23 crore for building this four-lane highway under hybrid annuity mode. As the locals were opposing the building of the elevated road the decision was taken to abandon the move.
