Retired bureaucrat accused in disproportionate assets case had sought one-month bail for medical treatment

The Uttarakhand High Court has approved a 20-day short term bail sought by former additional secretary of the Social Welfare department, Ramvilas Yadav who is booked in a disproportionate assets case. Hearing on the appeal of the accused, the single bench of justice Alok Kumar Verma granted him the short term bail for undergoing medical treatment. He was ordered by the HC to not leave the country without the court’s permission and surrender before the prison authorities as soon as the period of the bail expires. The matter will be taken up next on August 21. In his bail application, Yadav said that his health was not good and that he had to go to the Sir Ganga Ram hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. He had sought a one-month short term bail for this purpose. The government had opposed this stating that one month is too long and a 15-day period should be enough. The court then granted him 20-day short term bail for medical treatment.

It will be recalled that the Vigilance Department in June  last year the Vigilance department had arrested Yadav a day after he was suspended by the State government. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested the retired IAS officer in May this year in connection with the investigation conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2022, in the disproportionate assets case. He had also worked earlier in Uttar Pradesh and a person in Lucknow had accused him of disproportionate assets. The State Vigilance department probed the complaint and raided his properties in Lucknow, Dehradun and Ghazipur. The authorities had stated that during investigation, his assets were found to be 500 times more than his income.
