Forest department’s role vital in times of ecological imbalance: Guv

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that the role of the Forest department and forest officers has become all the more important at a time when the whole world is concerned about ecological imbalance. The development of forests and protection of wildlife is very important to address the issues of climate change and global warming, he said. He was speaking at the convocation of the 35th State Forest Service Induction Course at the Central Academy for State Forest Service (CASFoS) here on Tuesday.

Addressing the officers, the governor said, “You will serve the nation and State for about three decades. This time will be important for the development of a new India. You will have to work with sensitivity to serve the nation and humanity facing various situations while involved in protection of the environment. Forests and forest wealth can also become a means of the nation’s economic development and progress in which the role of Forest department officials will be important.”

CASFoS principal Meenakshi Joshi in her address informed the gathering about the training programme. The two-year training involved 20 months of theoretical and practical training along with four months on the On Job Training (OJT). On this occasion, all 33 officer trainees who passed out from the academy were conferred the diplomas by the governor.  A total of 33 officer trainees were sponsored by various States in the batch which included 18 from Uttar Pradesh, eight from West Bengal, four from Meghalaya, two from Nagaland and one from Maharashtra.
