The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will organise camps for one month in various areas of the city to maximise collection of property tax from all wards. The camps will be organised from June 15 to July 7 from 11 AM to 2 PM, said the municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly. He said that the camps will be organised multiple times in the bigger wards. He said that the camps are usually organised later in the year but considering the rate of tax submission in the first two months of this financial year, the corporation wants to make tax submission for locals easier and more accessible. He said that like the tax section in MCD, locals will also be able to submit tax via cash, card or online mode.
The officials will also correct the errors, if any, in the description of the properties as per the rules, said PainUly. He said that all tax inspectors have been deputed to ensure the process of tax submission goes smoothly in every camp organised in their respective areas.
He said that MCD has recovered property tax of Rs 20 crore in the past two months which is a record breaking amount as this is the first time such a large amount was collected in such a short period. This amount includes nearly 80 per cent tax from non-residential properties. He said that the corporation has sent nearly 4,000 bills in this financial year and the taxpayers are submitting tax online and offline. He said that these camps scheduled to be organised from June 15 will also considerably increase the tax collection of MCD. More such camps will be organised after July too as per the requirement of locals in wards, added Painuly.
