Expert team reaches Karnprayag to survey subsidence affected areas

A team of technical experts reached Karnprayag in Chamoli district on Monday to check the problem of land subsidence being experienced in the municipal area of this city. The team has started surveying the areas affected by subsidence. After studying in detail the reasons for land subsidence, the expert team is expected to submit its report to the State administration soon in order to facilitate swift action to address the subsidence. The survey team includes Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority technical expert Santanu Sarkar, Sharda Pradhan from Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, Kaushik Pandit from Central Building Research Institute, Sandeep from Geological Survey of India and Prasun Kumar Gupta from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing among others. The Karnprayag MLA Anil Nautiyal along with other local public representatives and officials were also present during the survey.

It is pertinent to mention here that a total of 28 buildings in the Bahugunanagar area of Karnprayag have been affected by land subsidence. Similarly, a few buildings have developed cracks due to subsidence in the Subhashnagar and Upper Bazaar areas.
