The Disaster Management secretary Ranjeet Sinha directed all district magistrates to ensure that lack of funds should not affect assistance to the needy during the cold conditions being experienced in the State. An additional budget of Rs 10 lakh is being provided to each district for such measures. The secretary said this while chairing a meeting with all district magistrates and officials of various departments on Thursday to review preparations for protection of people and animals from cold wave conditions.

Sinha directed all the DMs to arrange for temporary shelters in all Tehsils with all necessary facilities along with setting up of fires, distribution of blankets, ensuring adequate ration in remote areas, fodder for cattle and necessary medical facilities.

He directed the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation to provide adequate quantity of firewood for fires while the Public Works Department was directed to deploy equipment and personnel in advance for roads likely to be closed due to snow. The PWD was also directed to ensure that mishaps are not caused due to ground frost and fog in the State. Salt and lime should be sprinkled regularly to remove frost in addition to deployment of fog lights and reflectors.

Sinha directed all the DMS and sub divisional magistrates to conduct inspections at night to check the arrangements made for protection from cold wave conditions. He also directed that the treks likely to experience snowfall should be closed. The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited was directed to ensure power supply during the cold wave and snowfall in remote areas. The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh and other officials were also present in the meeting.
