Highlighting the pathetic condition of health services in Didihat and Tanakpur, the Uttarakhand Congress has said that these places are the Janmsthali (birthplace) and Karmstahli (work place) of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of Uttarakhand Congress on Monday, the chief spokesperson of State Congress Garima Dasauni said the Community Health Centre (CHC) of Didihat in Pithoragarh district is suffering from the lack of X-ray and ultrasound machines. She said that in absence of these facilities, the patients and pregnant women have to travel to Pithorgarh to get the X ray and ultrasound done. Dasauni said that the poor patients have to spend Rs 5,000 to 6,000 on travel and medical expenses. She said that it is an irony that the senior leader of BJP and former minister Bishan Singh Chufal is a six time MLA from Didihat.

She said that apart from being MLA from the year 1996 onward from the area Chufal was a minister in different BJP governments and was the State president of BJP. “Being such a senior and influential leader, Chufal has not been able to facilitate provision of X-ray and ultrasound machines in the CHC at Didihat. He has no right to call himself a public representative,’’ she said. The Congress leader added that local congressmen have been staging a protest in Didihat for the last many days but the administration is paying no heed. She said that the protesters are demanding installation of a digital x-ray machine, an ultrasound machine and construction of a new building of CHC. They also want all the vacant posts of doctors and other staff in the CHC to be filled.

The Congress leader added that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Tanakpur government hospital is non-functional in the absence of staff.
