Cong caught on wrong foot on Muslim varsity issue

Thursday, 03 February 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The utterances of the Congress leader Aakil Ahmed on establishment of Muslim university has created an embarrassing situation for the party in Uttarakhand. A video has gone viral in which Ahmed is seen saying that he has taken back his nomination form from Sahaspur assembly constituency on the assurance of Congress leadership that a Muslim university would be set up in the area. Ahmed had withdrawn his nomination in favour of the official candidate of Congress party Aryendra Sharma from Sahaspur assembly constituency on Monday. On Tuesday he was made the vice president of the party. The statement of Ahmed was picked up by the ruling BJP which termed it as an evidence of politics of appeasement of Congress party. When asked to comment on the subject the head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress and former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the Congress party has promised to set up a Sanskrit university and the BJP is engaged in a conspiracy on the issue.
