Local seeks probe in alleged sexual assault & murder of a minor

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has received a complaint letter from a local resident of Dehradun in which the complainant has accused a Gangotri Vihar resident of alleged sexual assault and the murder of a minor girl. The chairperson of the commission, Usha Negi informed that the complainant has kept his or her identity a secret in the complaint letter.

According to the letter, a 12 years old girl was working in a house in Gangotri Vihar area where she was being harassed sexually and physically for years. The complainant has alleged in the letter that the girl was sexually assaulted by the accused probably on November 1 or 2 which affected her health badly. Police personnel from Raipur police station had purportedly arrived to investigate the matter in the house of the accused as per the complainant in the letter and stated that only after this, the alleged victim was admitted to a private hospital. The minor girl reportedly died on November 8 during her treatment and according to the complainant, the accused and his family cremated the body without informing the victim’s family. The complainant has also stated in the letter that the police are not investigating the matter and alleged that police are trying to protect the accused and his family.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Negi has directed the deputy inspector general/ SSP of Dehradun to appoint an investigating officer to investigate the alleged crime against the minor and asked that the report be submitted within 15 days in the commission.
