Five arrested for gang rape of woman & 6-year old daughter

Five accused have been arrested by the police in the gang rape of a woman and her six-year old daughter in a moving car. The Haridwar police and special operation group (SOG) arrested the accused including residents of Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh along with a resident of Kaliyar near Roorkee for the gang rape which was committed on the night of June 24 informed the deputy inspector general and Haridwar senior superintendent of police Yogendra Singh Rawat while addressing the media on Thursday.

Rawat said that after the incident, the woman victim had named one of the accused as Sonu. The police then learnt about a white coloured Alto car used in the crime. Using these two clues, the police managed to apprehend the accused. The woman had told the police that Sonu had taken her and her daughter on a motorbike while wearing a pink shirt.  Later, some men in a white car forcibly took her along with her daughter and gang-raped her. The police started looking for Sonu and the white Alto car. During investigation, the police apprehended Mehak Singh alias Sonu of Imlikheda village in Kaliyar area.  His motorbike was also recovered. During interrogation, Sonu told the police that on the night of the incident, he saw a woman and a girl standing and waiting for some transport. He talked to the woman and offered to drop her at Kaliyar. He then allegedly raped her after taking her to a secluded spot. After that four men reached the spot in a car, forcefully took the woman and her daughter in the car and gang raped them in the moving vehicle. They then dropped the two victims on the side of the highway.

Further Investigation revealed that the said car is registered in the name of Muzaffarnagar resident Rajeev alias Vicky Tomar.  On the basis of CCTV camera footage and information from other teams and informers, two men – Vicky Tomar and Subodh were caught by the police. During interrogation, both confessed to the crime and gave the names of their companions- Deoband residents Sonu Tejian and Jagdish who were also arrested by the police. The accused Raju alias Vicky Tomar is a general secretary in the Bharatiya Kisan Union.

The Garhwal deputy inspector general has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the police team which solved the case.
