The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) retrieved the body of a trekker from West Bengal named Alok Vishwas (34) on Wednesday who had died during a trek on Kedarnath-Ransi route in Rudraprayag 25 days ago. The officials informed that after the health of two out of 10 members of a trek team from Bengal started deteriorating on October 9 on the Kedarnath-Ransi route, SDRF was called to rescue them as both were incapable to make it back on their own while the remaining eight members returned safely with porters. The SDRF team reached the location after intensive search operation amid the bad weather and heavy snow to rescue both the same day but one of them had died on the spot. The officials said that considering the bad weather and deteriorating health of the trekker, he was immediately taken for medical treatment but the dead body of the other trekker could not be retrieved due to the long trekking route and heavy snowfall. On the orders of the SDRF Commandant, Manikant Mishra, a high altitude rescue expert team was dispatched from Sahastradhara post to retrieve the body of the trekker by helicopter on October 29. However the team could not retrieve the body once again due to bad weather conditions. In another attempt on Wednesday, the team retrieved the body from 12 kilometres ahead of Kedarnath and transported it to Guptkashi by helicopter.
