BJP steps up preparations for Lok Sabha election

In view of the coming Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has divided the parliamentary seats in the State into two clusters. Cabinet minister Singh Rawat has been made in-charge of Dehradun which is the centre of the three seats in Garhwal region while cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna has been made in-charge of Haldwani, the centre of the two seats in Kumaon region. The co-in-charges and Lok Sabha in-charges will be announced soon to assist them. The party will receive cluster level programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, Home minister Amit Shah and Defence minister Rajnath Singh, for which preparations have been started, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said.

He informed the media that the wall painting campaign started on January 5 will not be conducted from January 15 involving the chief minister, ministers and party office bearers at the booth level till implementation of the model code of conduct. After formation of the State level committee, district level teams are being formed for the party’s joining campaign which will be stepped up for the next two months after Makar Sankranti. Bhatt said that the party has so far received the names of more than 1,200 leaders and senior workers of various parties wanting to join the BJP. They will be accorded the primary membership of the party after detailed inquiry into any allegations of criminal and unethical acts. Attempts will be made to include political and social personalities, ex-servicemen, employees and those who have contested elections in the past, he added.
