Bridge approach collapse exposes BJP government’s corruption: Mahara

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the collapse of a portion of approach road to Bholpani bridge in Dehradun on Thursday has exposed the ‘zero tolerance for corruption’ rhetoric of the BJP government in the State.  Interacting with the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday, Mahara said that this is the fourth such incident in recent times and added that the Doiwala and Lachhiwala flyovers are also sinking. He said that local Congress leader and the member of district Panchayat Shakuntala Negi on November 29, 2018 had raised questions on the quality of the works. Mahara said that initially a company was blacklisted and some employees were suspended but later they were reinstated and the contractor received his pending payment. He said that the Congress party had raised apprehension about the safety of bridge on Song river on the Dehradun airport road and had the government taken cognisance the cost of repair would be around Rs 25 lakh. Mahara said that later Rs three crore was spent on earth work of the bridge only which is criminal wastage of public money. On the Ankita Bhandari murder case the PCC president said that the refusal of the High Court to order a CBI probe is unfortunate. Mahara said that if the parents of Ankita want to appeal in the Supreme Court, the Congress party is ready to provide support. He said that during the pandemic of Covid-19 many private vehicles were acquired by the administration for transporting patients, food, medicines and other content but the owners of the vehicles have not received the pending payments yet. Mahara added that the many young paramedics were appointed on contract during the pandemic who served the patients at the risk of their health but they were removed from the jobs. “In such a situation how can we expect these paramedics and vehicle owners to come forward to help,’’ he asked.
