BJP to declare CM’s bypoll constituency on Saturday: Kaushik

The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to announce on Saturday the constituency from which chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat will contest the Assembly by election. Meanwhile, speculations continued on Thursday as the chief minister who was to return to Dehradun from New Delhi was reportedly asked to stay there for another day. Sources state that two ministers have also been called to Delhi for discussions by the party’s central leadership.

When contacted by The Pioneer, the BJP State president Madan Kaushik said, “We will inform on Saturday.” He had been asked to comment on the AAP declaring Ajay Kothiyal its candidate to contest against the chief minister in the bypoll for Gangotri Assembly constituency even though the BJP had not made any official announcement.

It will be recalled that Rawat had gone to Delhi on Wednesday to meet the BJP national president JP Nadda. The chief minister had told journalists before leaving Dehradun that he was going to inform the party’s central leadership about the discussions held during the party’s three-day Chintan Shivir which had concluded in Ramnagar on Tuesday. If sources are to be believed, the main topic of discussion with the central leadership is the constituency from which Rawat will contest the Assembly bypoll.
