The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand. Greeted enthusiastically by party workers and leaders at the party’s State office on Tuesday, Bhatt exhorted the party members to not rest for the next 100 days as said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Bhatt along with senior office bearers of the BJP went to the Vidhan Sabha to receive the certificate of election from the returning officer. He was accompanied by party workers in a procession first to the Statehood martyrs memorial and then to the party’s State office. Speaking at the programme held at the party office, Bhatt said that when he had started his social and political life, he had never imagined he would get any position and had focused only on working in the party organisation. “It is due to the affection of lakhs of party workers that the party leadership has put its trust in me. I thank the party leadership and assure you that I will strive to meet all your expectations. Having reached the Rajya Sabha, I will work to raise the issues of the public more strongly,” he said.

Bhatt exhorted the party workers to follow PM Modi’s resolve of taking no rest for the next 100 days. The BJP workers have to focus on ensuring a thumping victory in all the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand. Stating that the nation and State are moving forward under PM Modi and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami respectively, he exhorted the party workers to strengthen them further.

Felicitating him on behalf of the party workers, Haridwar MP and former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that there is considerable enthusiasm among the party workers. All have seen Bhatt work for the organisation sincerely from the booth level to the post of the party’s State president. Building the organisation in difficult situations, sincere participation in the Statehood movement and Ram Mandir movement and ensuring a victory in all elections while heading the BJP in Uttarakhand make Bhatt very special, Nishank said.

Later in the evening, Bhatt met Dhami at the CM’s official residence. Dhami said that Bhatt’s presence in the Rajya Sabha will further boost the development works in the State.
