Delivery at hospital gate: Doctor, nursing officer suspended

Jolted into action by the stern message of the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat in the incident in which a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby at the gate of the hospital, the State Health department has suspended a nursing officer and recommended suspension of the on- duty doctor of the government female hospital Haldwani on Monday. The department has also sought an explanation from the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the government hospital in Khatima in the incident. 

The Health minister Rawat said that the doctor and nursing officer responsible for negligence in the case have been suspended. He said that taking cognizance of the media reports he had directed the officers of the department to take stern action in the case.

On his orders, the director general of State Health Services had constituted a four member committee headed by director medical health Kumaon division. The committee in its report had found Dr Disha Bisht, the doctor on duty and nursing officer Dipti Rani of government female hospital, Haldwani guilty of dereliction of duty. The team found that the pregnant woman was referred to another hospital even as the required number of medical and para medical staff were there in the hospital. On the recommendations of the investigation committee, the Health DG Dr Shailja Bhatt ordered suspension of the nursing officer and the recommended suspension of Dr Bisht.

The minister informed that the CMS of Khatima hospital has also been asked to submit an explanation. He said that stern action would be taken against all those found to be involved in negligence. Rawat added that such negligence would not be tolerated in future.
