Prima facie no fault in transformer, meter: UPCL

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has claimed that the prima facie there was no fault in the transformer and the electricity meter installed in the premises of the Sewage treatment plant of Namani Gange in Chamoli. It claimed that probably the accident in which 16 persons died due to electrocution occurred due to some internal fault in the electricity line of the premises ahead of the meter. The Managing Director (MD) of UPCL, Anil Kumar Yadav said that as per the information received from Director (Operations), a 20 KV connection of Namami Gange is established near 11 KV Nizmula feeder. 

He said that when the lineman noticed discrepancy in the 11 KV feeder, a shutdown was taken at 11.15 am on Wednesday and after repair the line was charged at 11.35.  Incidentally the current spread in the tin shed and other areas of the Sewage Treatment Plant premises when the police and other personnel had gone there to conduct a post-mortem of the Chowkidar who had died a day earlier.

Yadav said that detailed information about the reasons of the accident is being obtained and an inquiry at appropriate level has been ordered. He said that Director (Operations) ML Prasad and Chief Engineer (Distribution) Garhwal have left for the accident site.
