Farm laws, Price rise- Cong holds state-wide protest

Cong workers burn the effigy of union govt in protest against atrocities on farmers and uncontrolled price rise

In protest against what it termed as against atrocities on the farmers and the increasing prices, the Uttarakhand Congress held state wide protests on Tuesday. The effigies of the union government were burnt at all district headquarters by the Congress workers.

In Dehradun, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh led the party workers in the protest. Launching an attack on the BJP governments of Centre and state,the PCC president said that lakhs of farmers of the country are on the roads from last 70 days in protest against the three draconian farm laws but instead of heeding to their demands, the Union government is appearing determined to defame the farmers by labeling them as Khalistanis and Pakistanis. Talking about the Tractor Rally of farmers held on January 26, he said the BJP hatched a conspiracy to malign the image of farmers by infiltrating its goons into the ranks of farmers who engaged in arson and insulted the tricolour. He stressed that the Congress party would not allow the government to defame the farmers. 

On the price rise, the PCC president said that the policies of the Narendra Modi government has ensured that the prices of food grains, pulses and edible oil are out of reach of the general public. The prices of cooking gas, petrol and diesel have skyrocketed. He said that the people are reeling under the pandemic of the Covid-19 have been hit hard by the increasing prices. He appealed to the party workers to intensify the agitation against the anti farmer and anti poor BJP governments both at centre and state. Former minister Hira Singh Bist said that the Trivendra Singh Rawat government of Uttarakhand is following the line of the Modi government in taking anti people decisions. The Vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the Congress workers would continue to provide unconditional support to farmers till the union government rolls back the three farm laws.

After the meeting, the Congress workers marched to Ashley Hall from the Congress Bhawan and burned the effigy of the union government.

The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Aryendra Sharma, former MLA Rajkumar, Rajendra Shah, Godavari Thapli, Lal Chand Sharma, Garima Dasauni and others took part in the protest.
