The Kotdwar police arrested a woman with 14 grammes of smack during a checking drive. According to official sources, a police team arrested Radha alias Chachi with 14 grammes of smack drug near Jhulapul in Kotdwar. The police registered a case against the 50-year old woman under NDPS Act.
On investigation, the arrested accused revealed that one person, whose name she does not know, brings drugs for her. The person purchases drugs from Bareilly and supplies it to her before going back. The police are inquiring into the criminal history of the accused woman.The arrested accused is a resident of Jhula Basti area of Kotdwar. It is pertinent to mention here that though hashish is also smuggled in the region, in recent years, smack has become a major problem.
The contraband is sourced mainly from Bareilly in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh with the authorities having failed so far to clamp down on the continued flow of smack from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
