The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has said that since the BJP was responsible for creation of Uttarakhand State, it is natural for the party to be connected with public concerns. Reiterating that the BJP government will bring strict land laws in the State, he questioned the Congress stating it had opposed creation of Uttarakhand and objected to the land law introduced in the Vidhan Sabha during the term of the BJP government under the then chief minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri. The parties which play regional politics should also answer why they opposed the action which was taken against land Jihad and love Jihad in the interests of the State.

Responding to queries of the media on Sunday, Bhatt said that the BJP is a responsible party when it comes to public sentiments and has so far met the expectations of the people. He said, “The party’s intention regarding land law is clear. The government first formed a land law committee and then after receiving its recommendations, it formed a high level drafting committee. This committee will examine all aspects of the land laws committee. The BJP government will certainly bring strict land laws in Uttarakhand. To preserve the culture and demography of the State, strict legal action has already been taken against land Jihad. The government has also clarified the position regarding domicile status. Some are spreading confusion claiming that domicile status holders are being changed to permanent resident status whereas this arrangement was made due to problems being faced in the appointment process. This will not affect the rights of the people and domicile status holders will not need a permanent resident certificate. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has already issued instructions to this effect,” Bhatt said.

Appealing to the people to be patient, he said that the people had seen the loot of the State’s land resources during the term of the Congress government from 2003 to 2007.
