Unlikely that woman committed self immolation to commit suicide: Tehri SSP

The police claimed that it is quite unlikely that the woman found burning along with her scooty on Monday in Tehri district’s Thatyud area committed self-immolation. Police are investigating whether the scooty caught fire and what kind of clothes the deceased was wearing so that it can be known how fast the fire spread from the scooty to her body, said the Tehri senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh. He told The Pioneer that a rumour spread on social media on Monday that the woman committed self immolation while the truth is that the possibility of this case being a case of suicide is very low. He said, “Committing suicide this way is quite cruel and painful and there is almost zero possibility that the woman set herself on fire.” Talking about the investigation, he said, “Her parents who live in Chinyalisaur have revealed during the investigation that their daughter had told her that she was going to Uttarkashi for a friend’s wedding. However, her body was found on the road in Thatyud leading to Dehradun. The police are investigating where she was exactly going. Also, some CCTV footage of private establishments on that route showed her riding the scooty alone and at a place, her scooty appeared to be on fire.” He also said that the chances of this incident being an accident case where the scooty caught fire due to some reason appears to be more feasible than the possibility of suicide. “It is because the body parts that were in direct contact with the scooty like her hands, hips and legs had burnt the most than the other parts. However, we are investigating the case from all possible angles and are gathering evidence,” the SSP said.
