Candidate churning in Congress continues

Friday, 01 March 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the BJP having zeroed in on the candidates for the five LS seats of the state, churning is still continuing in the opposition Congress. The party sources said that a crucial screening committee meeting was held in Delhi on candidate selection for Uttarakhand chaired by the party’s State in-charge Kumari Selja and attended by the State party chief Karan Mahara. Another meeting is slated on March 2 following which the names are likely to be announced.  The Congress sources said that though the party brass is favouring heavyweights to be fielded, the veterans are not evincing interest in plunging into the electoral battle. It is learnt that though 40 people have staked their claim for the seats the party high command is not convinced of their ability to give the saffron party a run for its money, particularly given the groundswell the ruling party is enjoying, post Ayodhya consecration.
