Former MLA Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ has said that the Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar should resign because a case of alleged rape in which he is accused is slated for hearing in the Delhi High Court. Singh also claimed that a video showing the MLA in a compromising act with a woman had been delivered to his office and said that an elected public representative indulging in such actions should not remain in office.

Addressing the media at the Press club here on Thursday, the former MLA said, “The Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar had stated earlier this year that he will resign if there is any case under section 376 of IPC pending against him in the court. A woman  had accused him of rape and the police had submitted the closure report. The metropolitan magistrate’s court had also accepted the closure report but the victim challenged this in the Delhi High Court. The case is slated for hearing in Delhi High Court on December 14. Kumar had not mentioned this case while filing his nomination for the Assembly election. He had said that he would resign if any rape case is pending against him in the court and so he should resign.”

Champion further said that a pen drive containing a video clip was delivered to his office on Wednesday and that the video clip shows the Khanpur MLA becoming physically intimate with a woman. He said that a person indulging in such actions should not remain an MLA. He said, “I had also complained to the Prime Minister about Kumar and on the directions of the Finance ministry, the Enforcement Directorate was instructed to conduct a probe. Why has the ED probe not progressed?”
